Privacy Policy

cherryplot (“cherryplot,” “we,” “us”) is operated by bypurr. We built it to be privacy-respecting: no advertising networks, no cross-site tracking, and we never sell your data. This policy explains exactly what data flows through the site and why.

1. Location

When you type a city or zip, or tap “use my location” (which shares your device’s approximate GPS coordinates with your permission), we send that location to our server and to our mapping providers to find nearby places. We cache results by location (e.g. “90210 · Eat”) to keep the site fast and cheap. That cache is tied to the location, not to you. You can use the site without ever sharing precise GPS location by typing a city or zip instead.

2. Things saved on your device

Your saved spots, completed quests, and recently-shown items are stored in your browser’s local storage on your device. They stay there and are not sent to us unless you choose to sign in to sync (below). You can clear them anytime by clearing your browser data.

3. Optional account (sync)

Signing in is optional. If you enter your email to sync across devices, we send you a one-time magic link (no password) and store your email and your synced saved spots and completed quests in our database (Supabase). We use your email only to sign you in and to sync your data. You can sign out anytime, and you can ask us to delete your account and data (see “Your choices”).

4. Submissions

If you suggest a rule, add a spot, or submit a partner inquiry, we store what you send (including any email or business details you provide) so we can review it, respond, and possibly publish it. Please don’t include sensitive personal information in a suggestion.

5. Aggregate usage & analytics

To understand what’s popular and to power our trending pages, we log anonymous, aggregate events per place (e.g. how often a spot is shown or tapped, and its city). These are tied to the place, not to you. We also use Vercel Web Analytics, which is privacy-first and cookieless: it measures page views in aggregate without cookies or cross-site tracking.

6. Security logs & abuse prevention

Our host keeps standard, short-lived server logs (like IP address and request time) for security and reliability, as is typical for any website. We also use your IP address transiently to rate-limit requests and prevent abuse. We don’t use it to build a profile of you.

7. What we never do

We don’t sell or rent your personal data, serve targeted advertising, use advertising cookies, or track you across other sites and apps. There’s no algorithm learning what you like. That’s the whole point.

Location caches expire on a rolling basis (about a week). Account data (email and synced items) is kept until you delete your account or ask us to remove it. Submissions and aggregate usage data may be retained for as long as needed to operate the service.

10. Your choices & rights

You can clear on-device data by clearing your browser storage, and sign out anytime. To access or delete your account and associated data, email hello@bypurr.com and we’ll take care of it. Depending on where you live (including California and other U.S. states), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising them. We honor these requests at the email above.

11. Children

cherryplot isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child provided us data, contact us and we’ll delete it.

We may update this policy occasionally; the “last updated” date will change accordingly. Significant changes will be reflected here.
